Activity 5

Time to Move: Let’s Play the Balancing Game

Balancing activity is a physical activity. It helps your muscles to become strong.
  1. Perform each of the balances illustrated below with your parents/brother/sister/friends.
  2. Try to see who can hold each balance for 10 seconds.
All the balances can be performed indoor or outdoor.
If you have eaten a balanced breakfast, you will be able to better perform the different movements. Wait for at least 2 hours after having eaten your breakfast before performing these movements.

1. Balancing on one foot

(i). Forward Leg Raise

I place my hands on my hip and I raise my right leg forward up to my hip level. I maintain this position for 10 seconds. Then I perform same with my left leg

(ii). Backward Leg Raise

I place my hands on my hip and raise my right leg backward up to my hip level. I maintain this position for 10 seconds. Then I perform same with my left leg.

(iii). Sideward Leg Raise

I place my hands on my hip and raise my right leg sideward up to my hip level. I maintain this position for 10 seconds. Then I perform same with my left leg.

2. Airplane

I open my arms sideways, lean forward, right leg slightly bent and stretch the left leg straight. I hold the position for 10 seconds.

3. Reach the sky

I stand on my toes and stretch the hands up towards the sky. I hold the position for 10 seconds.

4. Boat pose

I lie on my back and then lift my chest and feet off the ground. I balance on the buttocks. I stretch the arms towards the feet. I hold the position for 10 seconds.
NOTE to Parents

All physical activities require energy. The more vigorous the physical activity, the more energy is required to perform the activity. Children who eat balanced breakfast perform better in the classroom as well as in physical activities.
To maintain good health and reduce the risk of health problems, health professionals and researchers recommend a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity on most, preferably all, days. Encourage your child to perform some physical activities every day. The best way is to do the activity along with him/her.Never do physical activity just after a meal.
