Activity 20

My Cloth Hanger Healthy Eating Mobile

Materials Needed: Cloth hanger, string, ribbon, thread, or yarn, cuttings of healthy foods from supermarket brochures or old magazines/newspapers, paint, markers, decorative items, scissors and hole puncher
With the help of my parents, I create a mobile of healthy foods by following the given steps
  1. Gather the listed materials.
  2. If the clothes hanger is made from metal, it can be shaped into a circle or square.
  3. Cover the hanger with ribbon strips.
  4. Decorate the cuttings of healthy foods with paint, markers and decorative items.
  5. Use scissors or hole puncher to make a little hole at the top of each of the cuttings
  6. With yarn, string, ribbons, or thread, for each cutting, tie one end through the hole and tie the other end to the clothes hanger. You can have the cuttings of different shapes (circle, oval, rectangle, square, kite-shaped) and hanging at different lengths.
  7. You mobile is done. You can now proudly hang it in your kitchen, dining room or bedroom
NOTE to Parents

You can promote your child’s imagination and creativity by encouraging the reuse of materials such as old clothes hangers, magazines/ leaflets pictures, pieces of strings and ribbons. Such materials can be used to mount a decorative item such as a mobile which can also serve as tool to promote healthy eating through the creative display of pictures of healthy foods. By engaging your child in such activities, you are helping him/her to look at used objects in new ways to reduce solid waste production and to promote healthy habits.
