NOTE to Parents

To reduce waste, here are some examples of green habits for grocery shopping and for meal preparation:

• Use cloth bags for groceries.
• Use pressure cooker to cook pulses (‘grains secs’) instead of buying cans.
• Keep food in covered containers instead of using cling film to cover food.
• Reuse vegetable scraps (peels/skins, tops, bottoms) such as onions, ‘chouchou’ (chayote) or carrot for making stock, and fruit peels such as pineapple for making juice.
• Reuse eggshells (crushed) in potted plants.
• After washing rice, pulses or vegetables, reuse the water to water the plants.
• Wrap sandwiches for a packed meal in clean cloth napkins instead of tissue paper, plastic or paper bags.
