VEGETABLE POTAGE

(i) I identify the ingredients and equipment needed for preparing the vegetable potage.
(ii) I match the pictures with the correct ingredients and equipment.
(iii) I help my parents to prepare vegetable potage by using the identified ingredients and equipment and by following the given method.
Onion, peeled and chopped

Carrot, finely diced

Chayote (‘chou chou’), diced
Corn
1 tablespoon
Peas
1 tablespoon
Medium-sized saucepan

Chopping board

Knife

Method:
  1. Prepare the vegetables as indicated in the ingredients list.
  2. Heat the saucepan and add the margarine/oil.
  3. Fry the onions to soften.
  4. Add the diced carrots and chayote, corn and peas to the saucepan.
  5. Allow the vegetables to cook for 5 minutes. Cover.
  6. Add water to the vegetables and allow to cook for 15 minutes until the vegetables are ready.
  7. Add parsley and allow to cook for further 10 minutes.
  8. Off heat, season with salt and pepper according to taste.
NOTE to Parents

• Involve your child in the buying of ingredients and preparation of vegetables and thus they will show more interest in eating vegetables.
• Parents can also engage children in laying the table at meal time.
